The Clock
The Roquer clock is designed to be the best chess clock in your pocket. It works offline, needs no account, and uses zero battery-draining features during play.
Split-screen layout
Section titled “Split-screen layout”Place your phone flat on the table between you and your opponent. The screen splits in half:
- White plays on the bottom half
- Black plays on the top half (text is inverted so they can read it)
Tap your half to end your turn. Your opponent’s clock starts immediately.

Time controls
Section titled “Time controls”Roquer supports all standard chess time controls:
| Category | Examples |
|---|---|
| Bullet | 1+0, 1+1, 2+1 |
| Blitz | 3+0, 3+2, 5+0, 5+3 |
| Rapid | 10+0, 10+5, 15+10, 20+0 |
| Classical | 30+0, 30+20, 60+30, 90+30 |
| Custom | Any combination of minutes + increment |
The increment (e.g., “+3”) adds seconds to your clock after each move.
Haptic feedback
Section titled “Haptic feedback”You’ll feel a short vibration each time you tap to switch turns. This confirms your tap was registered without looking at the screen.
Low-time warning
Section titled “Low-time warning”When you’re running low on time, the clock display changes color to warn you. Below 30 seconds you’ll also feel a warning vibration.
Screen stays on
Section titled “Screen stays on”The screen stays awake during an active game. No need to worry about your phone going to sleep mid-game.
Offline play
Section titled “Offline play”The clock works entirely offline. No internet connection is needed during the game. GPS is only checked once when you log the game afterward (to find the nearest chess spot).
Battery usage
Section titled “Battery usage”The clock is optimized for minimal battery drain:
- Blitz game (~10 min): less than 5% battery
- Rapid game (~30 min): less than 10% battery
The OLED-black background helps save power on phones with OLED screens.
