ChessGrid Map
The ChessGrid is a map of every place chess happens — public chess tables, parks, cafes, chess clubs, and more.
Browsing the map
Section titled “Browsing the map”Open the Map tab to see chess spots near you. Each spot is marked with a pin:
- Pawn icon — public chess tables and parks
- Rook icon — cafes and clubs
Tap a pin to see the spot’s name, type, and how many games have been played there.

Pre-loaded spots
Section titled “Pre-loaded spots”Roquer launches with 285+ chess spots already mapped across the Netherlands. These come from verified public chess table databases, so the map is never empty on day one.
Spot details
Section titled “Spot details”Tap a pin to see:
- Spot name and type
- Number of games played
- A link to the spot’s leaderboard (if games have been played there)
- A “Be the first to play!” prompt (if no games yet)
Adding a new spot
Section titled “Adding a new spot”Found a chess spot that’s not on the map? You can add it:
- Long-press on the map where the spot is
- Enter a name for the spot
- Choose the type (public table, park, cafe, club, or other)
- Submit
You need a Roquer account to add spots (the app will prompt you to sign up if you haven’t already).
No account needed to browse
Section titled “No account needed to browse”You can browse the ChessGrid and view spot details without creating an account. You only need to sign up when you want to log games or add new spots.
